Ash Wednesday 2025 Blizzard, Finding Church Alternatives

I'm bummed. Our Ash Wednesday masses have been cancelled. Not that I would venture out today anyway. An early spring blizzard means I'm exercising prudence by staying put until the wind dies down & the drift in the driveway is cleared.

Yes, this is a photo taken from our living room window, facing east. The wind is out of the northwest, yet the snow is plastered to the window and there’s a drift in the driveway about 2 feet deep.

Living in the Midwest, and especially in the country, there’s always the chance weather can alter or cancel any plans. A fact making me ponder why so many young people are caught off guard when all the sudden events are cancelled.

I personally like to be prepared. Not that I can control what the weather does, but I can at least plan for what does come my way. I was taught from a very young age to monitor the weather. What certain clouds, wind directions, and other clues our Lord gives with his Natural Law that indicate what weather may do. All so one could be prepared and plan.

So, with this blizzard I brought plenty of things from the office last night to work on at home today. And not being able to go to mass– even if I can’t receive the ashes, I am grateful we now have on-line options. Like this one from St. Mary of Nazareth in Urbandale, IA (a suburb of Des Moines).

Another thing I am grateful for today is that you can still start your Lenten Journey With Jesus today. With this program you can listen to the short (5-7 minute) scripture-based guided meditations anywhere you have internet access.

So even if the roads are closed and church is cancelled, you can still have a meaningful Ash Wednesday. A time to acknowledge what God is calling you to during this time of renewal. Acknowledge where you’ve sinned (missed the mark) and how God wants you to repent (adjust course) and turn back to him. The first step to creating fertile ground in the garden of your heart for your new life in Christ. All so you can bear fruit 30, 60 & 100 fold!

3rd Biblical Truth: You are a Temple of God’s Holy Spirit

In this article, let’s take a look at the 3rd Biblical Truth – you are a Temple of God’s Holy Spirit.  Yes, God lives in you!  A very big reason to take time for self care I talked about in the last post on the 2nd Biblical Truth.  So let’s dive in to why this Biblical Truth is important and how you can use it to your advantage when you’re creating new habits.

2nd Biblical Truth: Love Your Neighbor as Yourself

2nd Biblical Truth: Love Your Neighbor as Yourself

Let’s take a look at the 2nd biblical truth – how God commands you (like a wise parent who knows what’s best for you) to take care of yourself and your body.  You’ll understand how running on empty REALLY serves yourself and others, as well as evaluate your current recharging practices-or lack there of, and what running on fully charged batteries can do for yourself and others.

Tapping Into Gratitude: The People in Your Life

Tapping Into Gratitude: The People in Your Life

Many times when we count our blessings (or those things we are grateful for), people often top the list. Why? Because God created us to live in community. To not only need him, but to need each other. Let’s take a moment to recall some of the people in your life, why you are grateful for them and how you can tap into that gratitude to help you move forward with your pray, eat, move goals.
